Retreat Opportunities
Sunday worship and weekly adult forums such as Eat Pray Laugh Learn Love are terrific but sometimes you are ready to go deeper into faith. Or perhaps it's not that serious—you just want a break from routine! It is fun and uplifting to go on a weekend retreat with other Christians. Our members and Synod bring the following retreat opportunities to Triumphant Cross.
Annual Women's Retreat at Camp Calumet. Women from TCLC have often attended a Camp Calumet women's weekend in November. Calumet puts on a great program Friday evening to Sunday noon of food, fellowship, sharing faith, and fun outdoor activities (shopping is an option!) around a theme.
What is Camp Calumet? Camp Calumet Lutheran is a year-round conference center, a summer camp for children ages 8-18, and a family campground, open to anyone. You can explore Calumet's website, pick an event, and just go as an individual or with your family. If you want, invite others from TCLC to go with you. On the shores of beautiful Lake Ossipee in NH, Calumet offers weekend retreats for men, women, families, and youth. Camp Calumet is a ministry of the New England Synod of the ELCA.
Tres Dias & Walk to Emmaus. These 3-day weekends are a short course in Christianity featuring worship, prayer, music, talks by lay people and clergy, and small-group discussions. Their purpose is to help Christians grow in discipleship and leadership. Both of these weekends grew out of the Catholic Cursillo movement, which originated in Spain and came to the U.S. in the early 1960s. ("Cursillo" means "short course" in Spanish.) They are now offered all over the world and all follow the same basic format. Tres Dias is put on by a protestant ecumenical group; Walk to Emmaus is put on by the Methodist church; Cursillo is put on by the Catholic Church; and there is an Episcopal Cursillo as well. Eight TCLC members have attended Tres Dias in NH while four other members have been to similar weekends. Ann Rowe, our church admin, is involved in Walk to Emmaus. If you are interested please speak to Ann. This is not an official ministry of TCLC, but because we have members connected with these weekends, this opportunity exists for all.
